| Bilibili Live | HLS | 1-4 hours | 1-10GB | Verified |
| Sports Event Platforms | HLS/DASH | 1-3 hours | 3-8GB | Verified |
| WeChat Channels Live | HLS | 1-3 hours | 1-5GB | Verified |
Platform Compatibility Notes
Not all live platforms work with FlowPick. The following scenarios may cause detection or download failure:
| Limitation Type | Description | Typical Platforms |
|---|---|---|
| DRM Protection | Paid events use Widevine/FairPlay DRM technology | Some paid sports event streams |
| Real-time Stream Limits | Segment list continuously updates during live broadcast; cannot stably download | All live platforms |
| Dynamic Token | Replay segment URLs contain short-lived tokens | Limited-time replays on some platforms |
| Replay Expiration | Platform only retains replays for a certain number of days | Most live platforms |
| Regional Restrictions | Some events only open replays to specific regions | Overseas sports event platforms |
Characteristics of Live Replays
Compared to regular VOD videos, live replays have these characteristics:
| Feature | Regular Video | Live Replay |
|---|---|---|
| File Size | Usually < 2GB | Usually 2-20GB |
| Segment Count | Tens to hundreds | Hundreds to thousands |
| Segment Duration | 5-10 seconds | 2-10 seconds |
| Quality Options | Multiple options available | Usually only original quality |
| Encryption | Partially encrypted | Usually unencrypted |
Workflow
Step 1: Wait for Live Stream to End
During live broadcasts, the segment list continuously updates. Recommend waiting until the stream completely ends before downloading:
- Confirm stream has ended, page shows "Replay" or "Recording"
- Refresh page to ensure complete replay manifest loads
- Play from beginning for a few seconds to trigger media detection
Step 2: Configure Download Parameters
Large file downloads require special attention to parameter configuration:
| Parameter | Recommended Value | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Output Format | TS | Skip remuxing, fastest speed |
| Concurrent Threads | 2-4 | Avoid CDN throttling |
| Save Directory | Specified directory | Avoid using system drive space |
Why recommend TS format?
Live replay files are usually very large (5GB+). Choosing TS format skips the FFmpeg remuxing step and directly concatenates segments in binary. This has two benefits:
- Faster download (saves remuxing time)
- Lower memory usage (no need to load FFmpeg WASM)
TS files can be opened with VLC, PotPlayer, IINA, etc. If MP4 format is needed later, convert locally with native FFmpeg, which is much faster than browser WASM version.
Step 3: Monitor Download Progress
Long downloads need attention:
- Keep browser window active (don't minimize; some browsers limit background tab performance)
- Periodically check download progress and speed
- Ensure computer doesn't enter sleep mode
- Maintain stable network connection
Step 4: Verify File
After download completes:
- Check if file size is reasonable (refer to platform estimate)
- Open with player, scrub to different timestamps to verify integrity
- If file is corrupted, re-download with reduced concurrency count
Large File Download Strategy
Memory Management
FlowPick's streaming write mode (File System Access API) maintains constant memory usage when handling large files:
File Size Memory Usage
1GB → ~16MB (write buffer)
5GB → ~16MB
10GB → ~16MB
20GB → ~16MB
Prerequisite: Using Chrome/Edge browser with File System Access API enabled.
Time Estimates
Taking 10GB live replay as example, estimated download time under different network conditions:
| Network Environment | Download Speed | Estimated Time |
|---|---|---|
| 100Mbps Broadband | 8-10 MB/s | 17-21 minutes |
| 50Mbps Broadband | 4-6 MB/s | 28-42 minutes |
| 20Mbps Broadband | 2-3 MB/s | 56-84 minutes |
| Mobile Hotspot | 1-2 MB/s | 1.5-3 hours |
Actual speeds may be lower than theoretical values due to CDN throttling policies.
Interrupt Recovery
Current version does not support resumable downloads. If download is interrupted:
- Check interruption cause (network disconnect, computer sleep, browser crash)
- Resolve issue and restart download
- Recommend downloading large files in stable network environment
- Consider downloading during nighttime or non-use periods
Event Recording Scenarios
Esports Matches
Esports match recordings typically have these characteristics:
- Long duration (BO3/BO5 format can be 3-5 hours)
- High quality requirements (need clear game details)
- May need to save multiple matches
Recommendations:
- Prioritize highest quality
- Organize folders by event and match number
- Use TS format to speed up downloads
Sports Events
Traditional sports event recordings:
- Usually have multiple commentary versions
- Some platforms provide multi-angle replays
- File size varies by sport type (football > basketball > table tennis)
Recommendations:
- Confirm required commentary version before downloading
- Multi-angle replays need separate download for each angle
FAQ
Speed drops halfway through download?
Possible causes:
- CDN Throttling: Some platforms throttle long-duration downloads. Reducing concurrency may help
- Network Fluctuation: Check local network status
- Insufficient Browser Resources: Close other tabs to free memory
Second half of downloaded file won't play?
Possible causes:
- Live replay not fully generated: Wait 10-30 minutes after stream ends before downloading
- Segment download failure: Some segments fail even after retry. Reduce concurrency and retry
- CDN Node Issue: Try refreshing page to get new CDN node
Can I download only part of a live replay?
Current version downloads complete replays. If you need to extract clips:
- First download complete replay
- Use local tools (FFmpeg, LosslessCut, etc.) for trimming
Storage Recommendations
Space Planning
| Content Type | Single File Size | Monthly Average | Monthly Storage Need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Game Live Replays | 5-15GB | 10 matches | 50-150GB |
| Sports Events | 3-8GB | 20 matches | 60-160GB |
| Knowledge Streams | 1-3GB | 30 sessions | 30-90GB |
Long-term Storage
- Use external hard drive or NAS for storing large replay files
- Consider H.265 transcoding to reduce file size (requires local tools)
- Periodically clean up old replays no longer needed
